A basketball academy is buying a six-acre site near 53rd and North Webb Road in Bel Aire’s Sunflower Commerce Park, the city announced today.
Next Level Hoops Academy, owned by former Wichita State University basketball player Jason Perez, leads camps, clinics, group training and one-on-one training sessions, a release says.
Perez played basketball at WSU from 1996-2000, then played in European leagues in Belgium and Germany. Returning to Wichita, he started Next Level Hoops Academy in 2010 with five teams. Today, it has close to 30 teams and is growing.
Next Level Hoops also has its own AAU organization for the top teams to travel the country.
The new facility will have six basketball courts for league play, tournaments and practices, and include a strength and conditioning training facility. The goal for the academy is to have the best training facilities and basketball academy in the Midwest, the release says.
Perez says he selected Sunflower Commerce Park largely for its convenient access and the area’s recent activity.
Bel Aire City Manager Ty Lasher says it adds another family-friendly opportunity for the community.
Tymber Lee and Marlin Penner of John T. Arnold Associates negotiated the sale.
